Why I Love Shooting Sports
I am a sports parent. I sit in the stands every weekend, just like you. I have watched my kids win games they should have lost and lose games they should have won. I have seen the nervous face before the first whistle and the tears after a tough loss. I have also seen the pure, unfiltered joy of a kid who just scored their first goal. That is the stuff I photograph.
I am not standing on the sideline waiting for the perfect pose. I am watching the game, reading the plays, anticipating where the action is about to happen. I shoot through the chaos because that is where the real moments live. The ball hitting the back of the net is great, but the look on the kid's face a half-second later is the photo you are going to frame.
Most sports photographers are watching through the lens. I am watching the game first. That is the difference. I know when the goalkeeper is about to make a save because I saw the striker's body angle change. I know when the celebration is coming because I just watched the play develop. Being a fan of the game makes me a better photographer of it.
What You Get
Every session includes a mix of what parents actually want: sharp in-game action shots, individual athlete portraits, and team photos. But not the standard line-them-up-and-smile team photo where half the kids are squinting and one is picking grass. I shoot real action from real games, and when we do portraits, I make them feel like the athlete your kid is, not a school photo with a jersey on.
Action shots capture the intensity, the determination, the sweat. Portraits capture the confidence, the personality, the pride. And the candid moments in between capture everything else: the fist bumps, the water breaks, the coach talks, the post-game huddles. Those in-between moments are often the ones parents love most.
How It Works
I show up early. I watch warmups because that is where I learn the rhythms: who is the fastest player, who is the loudest, who is quietly focused. Then I shoot through the entire game or event, moving along the sideline, finding the angles that tell the story of that day.
After the session, I cull and edit the best shots and deliver a curated gallery of 50 to 100+ images depending on the session length and type of coverage. Turnaround is fast because I know you want to share these photos while the game is still fresh. Most galleries are delivered within a week, often sooner.
Sports I Cover
Soccer, lacrosse, football, baseball, basketball, track and field, swimming, skiing, mountain biking. If your kid plays it anywhere in Boulder County or along the Front Range, I will photograph it. Each sport has its own rhythm and its own key moments, and I have shot enough of all of them to know where to be and when to press the shutter.
I shoot at fields and venues across the county. Broomfield County Commons has 15 fields and hosts tournaments all season. Louisville Sports Complex and Sandstone Ranch in Longmont are regular stops. Clark Centennial Park in Longmont has great baseball and softball diamonds. I know the sideline angles, the light direction, and the best positions at every major sports venue in Boulder County.
I also shoot individual athlete sessions outside of game day. These are great for high school seniors who want to commemorate their sports career, club athletes building a recruiting portfolio, or any young athlete who just wants to feel like a pro for an afternoon.
For Teams and Organizations
I work with youth leagues, club teams, and tournament organizers across Boulder County. Whether you need full-season coverage, a single tournament, or individual athlete sessions for every player on the roster, I can build a package that works for your program and your budget. Reach out and let's talk about what your team needs.
"Jody has been shooting my son's lacrosse games for two seasons now. He captures the moments we miss from the stands. The intensity, the celebrations, the postgame hugs. These are the photos my son will want to see when he is older."

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you get such sharp action shots of fast-moving kids?
I use fast shutter speeds (1/1000th or higher), continuous autofocus tracking, and I position myself where the action is heading, not where it currently is. Reading the game and anticipating plays is more important than any camera setting.
Do you photograph indoor sports like basketball and swimming?
Yes. Indoor sports are more challenging due to lighting, but I shoot basketball, swimming, volleyball, wrestling, and gymnastics regularly. I adjust my gear and settings for each venue.
Can you photograph an entire season for our team?
Absolutely. Season packages are the best value and give you coverage across multiple games, plus individual athlete portraits and team photos. I work with youth leagues, club teams, and tournament organizers across Boulder County.
How soon after the game will we get the photos?
Most game galleries are delivered within a week, often sooner. Each image is individually edited for color, exposure, and cropping. I do not just dump the memory card and hand it over.
What sports do you cover across Boulder County?
Soccer, lacrosse, football, baseball, basketball, track and field, swimming, skiing, mountain biking, and more. If your kid plays it anywhere in Boulder County or along the Front Range, I will photograph it. Each sport has its own rhythm, and I have shot enough of all of them to know where to be.
