Outdoor & Adventure Photography in Denver
Denver sits right at the base of the foothills, which means I can take you from Cherry Creek Trail along the Platte River to the Red Rocks area in about 30 minutes. That range of terrain, urban trails to mountain vistas, is what makes outdoor sessions here so good.
I moved to Colorado because of the outdoors. That hasn't changed. When someone books an outdoor or adventure session in Denver, I get genuinely excited because I know how many options we have. This isn't a studio session with a backdrop. This is real terrain, real light, real Colorado.
Trail and Nature Sessions Around Denver
Cherry Creek Trail is one of my favorite spots for sessions that mix urban and natural. You get the creek, cottonwood trees, open meadows, and the occasional skyline view. It's paved enough that families with young kids can navigate it easily, but still feels like you're out in nature. I've done running portraits, cycling shots, and family walks along this trail dozens of times.
Bear Creek in Lakewood, right on Denver's western edge, gives me more of a mountain creek feel. Rocky banks, pine trees, and water that actually moves. For couples or individuals who want that rugged outdoor look without driving an hour into the mountains, Bear Creek is the spot.
And then there's Lookout Mountain. Twenty minutes from downtown Denver and you're standing at an overlook with the entire city spread out below you. The light up there during golden hour is something else. I've shot engagement sessions, individual portraits, and adventure lifestyle content at Lookout Mountain, and it delivers every time.
What I Bring to Outdoor Sessions
I'm not the photographer who stands on a path and asks you to walk toward me. I hike with you. I scramble up rocks. If we're doing a trail run session, I'm running ahead to set up the shot. My outdoor photography is active because the people I photograph are active. You should be doing your thing, and I should be keeping up.
I carry my gear in a trail pack, not a rolling case. I know how to work in wind, changing light, and the kind of terrain where a tripod would just slow me down. Colorado outdoor photography means being ready for conditions to shift, and I genuinely enjoy that challenge.
Adventure Sports and Active Lifestyle
Denver's outdoor community is serious. Trail runners, mountain bikers, climbers, hikers, paddleboarders on Sloan's Lake. If you do something active outdoors and you want professional images of it, that's exactly what I'm built for. I've shot cycling sessions along the Platte River Trail, trail running at Red Rocks, and hiking portraits on the trails west of town.
These sessions work best when you bring your actual gear and we go to your actual spots. Authenticity shows in the photos. I don't want to pose you holding a bike. I want to photograph you riding it.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far will you hike for an outdoor session?
As far as the session needs. I carry my gear in a trail pack and I am comfortable on rough terrain. Most Denver area sessions involve a half mile to two miles of walking or hiking, but I have done longer sessions for trail running and mountain biking shoots. We will plan the route together based on what you want.
What if the weather turns bad during our outdoor session?
Colorado weather moves fast, especially in the afternoons from May through September. If a storm rolls in, we take cover and usually wait it out. Most Denver afternoon storms pass in 20 to 30 minutes and the light afterward is incredible. If conditions are truly unsafe, we reschedule for free.
Can you photograph me doing my actual sport or activity?
That is exactly what I prefer. Bring your bike, your running shoes, your climbing gear, your paddle board. I want to photograph you in motion doing the thing you actually do. Posed adventure photos never look as good as the real thing.
What should I wear for an outdoor adventure session?
Wear what you would actually wear doing the activity. Performance gear, trail shoes, your usual layers. Avoid large logos and neon colors unless that is genuinely your style. Earth tones and solid colors photograph well against Colorado landscapes.
Do you shoot at Red Rocks?
I shoot in the Red Rocks area on the trails and open spaces near the amphitheater. The rock formations and light there are unique. The amphitheater itself has restricted access during events, but there are plenty of spots nearby that give you that Red Rocks look.
