Boulder Photographer
Telling real stories in the town I call home
Boulder is home. I moved here from Florida years ago because I fell in love with the mountains, the trails, and the way the light hits the Flatirons at golden hour. Every shoot I do in this town feels personal because I know these places like the back of my hand.
Why I Love Shooting in Boulder
I've been a Boulder photographer for years now, and I still get a little rush every time I drive down Broadway and see the Flatirons stacked up against the sky. That never gets old. When people ask me why I moved from Florida, I usually just point west and let the mountains do the talking.
Boulder gives me something most places can't: variety within a ten-minute drive. I can shoot a youth soccer tournament at Pleasant View fields in the morning, swing over to Chautauqua for a family session in the afternoon, and end the day on Pearl Street doing headshots with the brick-and-string-light backdrop that everyone loves. That range keeps my work fresh and keeps me excited about what I do.
Boulder Photography, Season by Season
Every season here changes the game. Fall is my busiest time because the cottonwoods along Boulder Creek turn this deep gold that makes every photo look like it belongs in a magazine. October light in The Peoples' Crossing is something I look forward to all year.
Spring brings the wildflowers on South Mesa and Chautauqua Meadow. Summer means long golden hours (the sun doesn't set until almost 8:30) and families who want to hike and play during their sessions. Winter has its own thing going on: snow on the Flatirons, quiet trails, and that crisp low-angle light that's perfect for portraits.
Colorado weather is its own character. I always tell clients to bring layers because it can be 70 degrees at the trailhead and 50 by the time we hike up. I've also learned to watch the afternoon thunderstorms in summer. We plan around them, and honestly, the light right before or after a storm is some of the best you'll ever see.
What I Shoot in Boulder
I offer five photography services, and all of them feel right at home here:
- Youth Sports Photography: Boulder Valley has an incredible youth sports scene. I shoot rec leagues, club teams, and tournaments at fields all over town.
- Outdoor & Adventure Photography: This is Boulder. The Flatirons, Royal Arch, NCAR trails, Flagstaff Mountain. If you want photos that show who you really are in the places you love, this is it.
- Family Photography: Boulder Creek Path, Wonderland Lake, The Peoples' Crossing. Families here are active, and I love sessions where kids can run around and be themselves.
- Portrait & Headshot Photography: Pearl Street, Sanitas trailhead, the CU campus area. Natural-light portraits that actually look like you.
- Local Business Photography: Pearl Street shops, 29th Street businesses, Gunbarrel startups, Boulder breweries. I help local businesses show the real people behind the brand.
My Favorite Boulder Spots to Shoot
People always ask me for my favorite location, and I can never give just one. Chautauqua Park is the obvious answer because the Flatirons backdrop is unbeatable for family and portrait work. But I also love The Peoples' Crossing at sunset, when the rocks glow orange and the whole city spreads out below you.
For something quieter, Wonderland Lake is perfect. Families with little kids love it because the trail is flat and easy, and the lake reflects the mountains on calm evenings. Boulder Creek Path is great for sessions where movement matters: walking, biking, playing. And Flagstaff Mountain gives you those wide-open views that make people stop scrolling.
Pearl Street Mall deserves its own mention. The brick sidewalks, the string lights, the storefronts. It works for headshots, couples, and even business branding shoots. I know the spots where the light is best at different times of day, which is the kind of thing you learn by shooting there hundreds of times.
Working With a Local Photographer
Here's what I think matters most: I live here. I'm not driving in from Denver and guessing where to park. I know which trails get crowded on Saturday mornings and which ones are quiet. I know that the light at NCAR is best about 45 minutes before sunset and that Chautauqua Meadow gets shade early in winter. That local knowledge shows up in the photos.
I also know the community. I've shot for Boulder Valley School District families, local business owners on Pearl Street, and youth athletes who play for clubs all over the Front Range. When you hire me, you're getting someone who cares about this town and the people in it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What areas of Boulder do you typically shoot in?
I shoot all over Boulder. My most popular spots include Chautauqua Park, The Peoples' Crossing, Boulder Creek Path, Wonderland Lake, Pearl Street Mall, Flagstaff Mountain, NCAR Trail, and Sanitas Valley. I also shoot at athletic fields, schools, and local businesses throughout town. If you have a favorite spot, I'm happy to work there.
When is the best time of year for outdoor photos in Boulder?
Every season works, but fall is my personal favorite. The cottonwoods along Boulder Creek and in The Peoples' Crossing turn gold in late September through October, and the light is warm and low. Spring brings wildflowers, summer gives you long golden hours, and winter has crisp light with snow on the Flatirons. I'll help you pick the best timing for what you want.
How far in advance should I book a session?
For fall sessions (September through November), I recommend booking at least 3 to 4 weeks ahead because that's my busiest season. For other times of year, a week or two usually works. Youth sports tournaments need advance planning too, so reach out as soon as you know the schedule.
What happens if the weather is bad on our session day?
Colorado weather is unpredictable, and I plan for it. If there's a serious storm, we reschedule at no extra charge. But light rain, clouds, or wind often make for better photos than bluebird days. I always watch the forecast and will be in touch with you ahead of time if I think we need to adjust.
Do you travel to other cities near Boulder?
Absolutely. I regularly shoot in Louisville, Superior, Lafayette, Longmont, and even Nederland and Estes Park. Boulder is my home base, but most of the Front Range is an easy drive. Location sessions outside Boulder may include a small travel fee depending on distance.
